On the holiday of 22 July, the Silesian Stadium had its grand opening. The Polish national team was defeated in the inauguration match by East Germany 0:2 (0:0). The first goal scored in the history of the stadium was an… own goal.  Scored by Jerzy Woźniak at about 6.30 pm. Spectators: 100,000.
